Atmosphere
The Summer months are short in the Taiga with approximately 50 to 100 frost free days. The Winter season usually lasts for about 6 to 7 months. In Summer, temperatures range as low as -7℃ and get as warm as 21℃ (rainy and humid.)
In Winter, temperatures range from -54℃ to -1℃ (cold and a lot of snow.) The total precipitation in a year in the Taiga is 30-85cm. The Taiga suffers cold winds coming from the Arctic circle. Not a lot of light can reach the understory, due to the incoming radiation being blocked by the dark trees. Mosses are very shade tolerant and do not have roots, nor can they store water. Conifers use only small quantities of water. Meaning the understory has a high moisture content and it is great for mosses to survive in this climate.
